"The woman of the wisest wit"

Sandra Dugdale,
soprano, producer and lecturer,
will entertain and enlighten us with an illustrated talk on producing G&S.

The Sheila Taylor meeting

Review

Sandra Dugdale is well-know to G&S enthusiasts, primarily for her roles in the Brent Walker series of videos.  Born in Pudsey, West Yorkshire, her training took place at the Guildhall School of Music, and there followed professional engagements with Glyndbourne Touring Opera, Royal Opera  and English National Opera.  Sandra has sung over eighty roles in total and entertained her audience at the November meeting with details of her career, recording the operas and anecdotes concerning personalities she has come into contact with over the years.  Her talk was interesting and entertaining.  As a special bonus, Sandra brought with her four of her students who sang excerpts from the operas;
Andrew Brown (tenor),
Seamus Begg (baritone),
Alex Lowe (soprano) and
Lucy Baines (mezzo).

A thoroughly entertaining evening was the result.  All four young singers sang superbly, accompanied on the piano by James Hendry with considerable polish.  The singers can no doubt look forward to successful careers in music and we wish them well for the future.
