"his talents he'll employ"

David Kay, one of our members, is an experienced performer and producer with The Three Towns Operatic Society.
He will sing a selection of G&S and talk about performing and producing.

The Society was entertained by six members of the Three Towns Operatic Society, led by David Kay ('patter' baritone) who introduced Victoria Goulden (soprano), David Griffiths (tenor), David Reeves (bass), Eileen Reeves (mezzo), and accompanist Nicola Dagnall. To reflect the Three Towns mixed programming, selections from G&S and operetta favourites made up the afternoon's concert. Stalwart numbers (Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes and Tit Willow for example) were contrasted with numbers from The Merry Widow (their current production) ,The Vagabond King (Only a Rose), and Desert Song (One Alone). There were some fine ensemble numbers, including Hail Poetry. A vivid insight into the running of an amateur operatic society was given, the struggle resonating with members of the audience, many of whom are involved in the challenges of annual productions. The increases in recent local authority venue charges are a cause for grave concern within many voluntary groups. Undaunted, this enterprising group seems to be going from strength to strength.
